Multi award winning Oswaldtwistle Mills has again emerged victorious at the 2009 Group Travel Awards for the fifth consecutive year.
The shopping village won the category for ‘Best Market, Mill or Factory Outlet’ after the readers of Group Travel Organiser magazine voted it their favourite shopping experience.
The awards ceremony is an annual celebration of the very best suppliers in the group travel industry and readers are asked to consider all aspects of group trips when casting their vote.
Despite contending against leading national attractions including McArthur Glenn, Bury Market and Boundary Mill, the award proves once again that Oswaldtwistle Mills is a premier retail visitor destination.
Boasting 100,000 square feet of 90 retail concessions, three fully licensed eateries and a nature reserve with over 52 varieties of ducks and geese, Oswaldtwistle Mills has welcomed over six million visitors through their doors in the past five years.
David Roberts, Coaching Development Manager at Oswaldtwistle Mills said: “Only a select group of businesses can claim such an unbroken run of success, and we are delighted to be one of them.
“To win such a prestigious award five years running is a great achievement and it confirms our commitment to providing the best possible service in all areas of our company.
“We are delighted to be performing so well across the board; 2009 has already seen us named UK’s most coach friendly shopping attraction and we’ve achieved the highly coveted Investor in People Award for our commitment to staff training and development.”
Tony Openshaw, Director Marketing for Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board, said:
“Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board is delighted to hear that Oswaldtwistle Mills has been awarded Best Market, Mill or Factory Outlet, by Group Travel Organiser magazine – for the fifth year running.
“Mill shops of the calibre of Oswaldtwistle Mills make a vital contribution to the good health of the visitor economy in Lancashire and continuous investment in their business ensures they remain very attractive to the group travel market.
“Our congratulations go to Ossy Mills’ highly skilled team who once again have eclipsed the competition.”
The winners were announced as part of gala evening of entertainment held at London’s four star Tower hotel and was attended by over 400 key members of the travel trade.
Simon Calder, travel writer, broadcaster and one of the most recognised commentators on the UK travel industry presented the winners with their awards on the evening.
